Our mission is to educate and empower clients to make informed decisions about their future.

How we differ

We curate a plan just for you

We take the time to learn about your priorities and the life you've built. The complex family dynamics. Your pet’s needs. The values you want to pass onto your children. We get specific so your loved ones have a clear roadmap to execute your wishes.

We do not bill by the hour

We all have family knowledge, memories, and values that are worth preserving. If you wish, we’ll record and store a video of you sharing your invaluable life stories for generations to come.

We protect more than your money

Our flat-fee billing ensures there are no surprise charges and that you do not feel rushed. Before we start drafting your plan, you’ll know exactly what you’ll pay.

We are your advisor for life

An estate plan only works if it's up to date. At no additional charge, we review your plan every three years to account for changes in your life and the law. Your family will have an advisor to turn to when something happens to you.

Cassandra Mensah (she/her)

Founding Attorney

Before I opened Holistic Estate Law Practice, I held several legal positions.  I’ve worked as a civil rights attorney and policy advocate, supporting people who experienced discrimination because of their gender, race, or sexual orientation. I’ve helped families navigate conflict and crisis in mediation and court.

In those seven years I’ve learned that the law is anything but neutral. For some, it is a tool to leverage power. For most, it is a tool of oppression that feels burdensome and inaccessible. My role is to translate complex legal ideas and help my clients make decisions that work for them. My approach is collaborative because I trust that my clients know what’s best for them.

I opened this practice because I value the transformative nature of difficult conversations. I do not view estate planning as a legal chore. I see it as an opportunity for clients to talk to loved ones about what matters most to them.

I live in Washington D.C. with my husband and our dog, Sadie. When I’m not working, I can be found at my local pottery studio, a live music venue, or a mutual aid event. I have my Honors BA from Wilfrid Laurier University (Canada) and my J.D. from the City University of New York (CUNY) School of Law.

I am licensed to practice in the state of New York and the District of Columbia.

We may be a good fit if you live in DC and...

You’ve made intentional decisions about what you own and you care where your things end up when you die.

You are queer and want to give your chosen family the legal right to manage your care.

You are a new parent who wants to make sure your minor child does not end up in the care of strangers in the event of your incapacity.

You are approaching retirement and finally have the time to prioritize your estate plan.

You’re ready to have difficult conversations about family dynamics, death, and incapacity in a productive and judgement-free environment.
